The gigapixel of La Pietat altarpiece measures 51,000 x 54,000 pixels and can be viewed via direct links to the various scenes and texts. The altarpiece is located in La Pietat Church in La Seu d’Urgell and visitors can enjoy it physically and digitally by interacting using a touch screen located near the altarpiece. In the gigapixel, the user can enlarge the details and enjoy the most distant scenes up close. The large size and depth of the altarpiece have been the main challenge of this project, together with the extreme brightness of the golden material.

La Pietat altarpiece, in Renaissance style, is the work of the sculptor Jeroni Xanxo (1548-1550). Apart from the central figure of the Virgin with the dead Christ, it is made up of different panels with episodes from Jesus' childhood and passion. It measures 4.6 x 3.6 meters and looks completely restored since 2016.

2.5 billion pixels.

Intuitive navigation.

It took more than 200 60-megapixel photographs to generate the spectacular gigapixel of this majestic piece of La Pietat church in la Seu d’Urgell.

The clean and intuitive interface of La Pietat altarpiece allows us to see in detail scenes of the seven sorrows of the Virgin Mary. The flight from Egypt, Jesus in the temple among the doctors and the four evangelists are some of them, with Saint Ermengol, Saint Ot and God the Father presiding from above the whole composition.

The capture has been made using an automatic panoramic head and a large telephoto lens to capture all the details, while avoiding possible deformations in the proportions of the altarpiece.
