3D digitisation using the photogrammetry technique. Casa Amatller, one of Barcelona's modernist landmarks, contains a large number of sculptural pieces of exceptional craftsmanship and quality. Digitisation allows these works to be converted into digital copies that will be used to disseminate, study, preserve and have an archived digital backup.

Photogrammetry.

The technology that relates photographs within space.

By capturing an object using many photographs from all possible angles, specialized software triangulates and locates the position within the camera space at the time each photo was taken. Matching points in each photo are taken as a reference. Then, by understanding the content of each photo and its location, a point cloud and a digital copy of the original piece can be constructed.

Capturing the pieces.

Quantity and technique go hand in hand.

The project required the digitisation of more than 20 pieces and details of the house. To achieve quality digital copies, around 200 photos were needed for the smallest objects and up to 1,100 photos for the larger or more intricate pieces. The quantity, combined with a good photography technique, ensures that good material is captured for later processing.

The result.

Virtual copies faithful to the original.

During image processing, the point cloud is given the actual dimensions of each object. This results in a digital twin with a realistic morphology. The texture is created with the color, light and details provided by the images. You can see all the resulting 3D below.
